Some brands are built in boardrooms. Victorian Varnish was built in a workshop — surrounded by gears, polish fumes, and acetone! The quiet obsession of someone who believed that nail polish could be more than color. It could be a world!

The Founder's Vision

Victorian Varnish began with a single question: what if a bottle of polish could transport you?

Our founder, a lifelong devotee of the Victorian era and steampunk subculture, spent years searching for nail lacquers that matched the richness of the aesthetic she loved — the deep coppers and oxidized bronzes, the iridescent smokes, the glints of clockwork gold. When she couldn't find them, she made them herself.

What started as small-batch experiments on a workbench became Victorian Varnish: an indie polish house dedicated to the art of the immersive, the intricate, and the extraordinary.

The Steampunk Aesthetic

Steampunk is more than a look — it's a philosophy. It's the belief that beauty and function are not opposites, that the handmade holds more soul than the mass-produced, and that imagination is the finest engineering tool ever invented.

Every Victorian Varnish collection is a chapter in that story. Our shades draw from the iconography of the era: the burnished patina of aged brass, the deep jewel tones of stained glass, the silvery shimmer of steam against gaslight, the ink-dark mystery of a Victorian parlor at midnight. Wearing our polish isn't just an aesthetic choice — it's an act of world-building.

What Makes Our Polish Different

We are an indie brand, we hand make, pour and bottle, label every single item! Every formula is developed with intention — layered pigments, magnetic & speciality finishes, with effects you simply won't find on a drugstore shelf. We work in small batches to maintain quality and creative control, which means each collection is a limited edition, considered release rather than a commodity.

Our polishes are crafted to perform as beautifully as they look: smooth application, rich opacity, and finishes that hold their drama from the first stroke to the last chip. We believe that a truly great polish should feel like a ritual, not a chore.

Victorian Varnish has always been more than a brand — it's a gathering place for collectors,  nail polish content creators, nail artist, nail polish enthusiasts, and nail polish dreamers who share a love of the bold and the beautifully strange.

We collaborate with artists, graphic artists, illustrators, content creators and fellow makers whose work lives in the same imaginative space as ours. We listen to our nail community when naming shades, building collections, community awareness, and deciding what comes next. Our customers are not an audience — they are co-conspirators in an ongoing creative project.  We always believe in offering an experience rather than just an order. We strive to make VV an all encompassing brand.
